Training Info

BHS Riding & Road Safety Test - Next Date to be Confirmed for 2010

Pass rate for last test on 30th August 2009 was 10 candidates out of 11 passed !!

The test needs to be booked directly with the BHS and for more information on the Riding and Road Safety Test it can be found in this link.

The cost of the test is £34 for BHS and Riding Club Members and £44 for all others. The application form can be found on the BHS website. The Test booking needs to be in with the BHS 21 days before the test or there is a £10 penalty to pay. Please remember that Tests close to applications 5 days before the test date. Please contact the BHS Safety Department if you have any more questions.

Once again we will be providing full training for the above exam utilising our own BHS Riding and Road Safety Trainers who will be assisted by Lorna Clark. Training will be delivered during the month of August with an exam refresher at NRC on the afternoon and evening before the test date. Please contact us for more details. Horses and all assitance will be available to anybody wishing to sit the test, but please remember to book the training with us and the test itself directly with the BHS.

BHS Equestrian Tourism Training and Exam - Next Date to be Confirmed for 2010

Pass rate for last test on 3rd September 2009 was 8 candidates out of 8 passed !! 4 at Ride leader and 4 at Assistant Ride Leader.

The BHS Equestrian Tourism Ride Leader and Assitant Ride Leader Exam takes place at Newtonmore Riding Centre and is open to all. Please book the exam directlly with the BHS Equestrian Tourism Department and the application form is available online. Please note all candidates must have passed their Riding and Road Safety Exam before being allowed to do the ET exam. First Aid training is also necessary before certificates will be issued by the BHS but is not essential before doing the exam.

BHS Exam Fees are:  Ride Leader £146.00 and Assitant Ride Leader £124.00 . (Exams must be booked direct with the BHS)

The ET exams are normally closed to applications 14 days before the actual exam date except in special circumstances when refunds for cancellations are no longer valid. Please check with BHS ET Training and Education Department for more details.

We will run a Refresher Course of 3 days duration before the exam that will cover the Ride Leader Syllabus as well as the Assistant Ride Leader Syllabus and this training will be delivered primarily by Rhoda McVey amd also by Ruaridh who holds the TRSS equivalent of the ET Centre Managers Certificate.

Please be careful to check the Entry Requirements for each Exam and that you are of the required level in both riding, stable management and ET knowledge, because a failure at Ride Leader level will not qualify for an Assitant Ride Leaders Certificate.

The Refresher Training is available at NRC for the above from £80.00 per day and is an extremely practical and intense course lasting from 9am to 9pm daily over the 3 days prior to the exam.
